On Thursday night, January 5, Holocene will host a lineup of local Kaleidoscopic pop acts, featuring the electro-soul maestros Three Sigma, renowned psychedelic pop four-piece The Hugs, and the relatively newer electro-indie pop act Bermuda Love Triangle.
When Three Sigma play a show, they don’t just perform, they put on a full fledged dance party. With widely known and loved covers in their repertoire such as LCD Soundsystem’s “Dance Yourself Clean” and Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer,” they’re bound to get the dance floor shaking with new renditions on old classics and original cuts alike.
Entering their 10th year of creating their own take on garage rock/bubblegum psychedelic-pop, The Hugs effort and dedication certainly haven’t gone unnoticed. In 2007, while still in high school, the group was discovered through their My Space page by the famous rock photographer Roger Sargent of NME Magazine and was quickly signed to the Columbia-backed 1965 Records and flown out to England where they lived and toured for a couple years. Although their debut album was ultimately declined by the label and they returned home to Portland, their sound is still as charming and catchy as ever and they’ve been independently releasing ear-worm pop music ever since.
Although somewhat new to Portland’s musical landscape, Bermuda Love Triangle’s timeless electro-pop, self described as “west coast indie meets eighties-infused dream pop,” is certainly a welcome addition. Listen to their short but sweet 2015 debut EP Sleep below and come out Thursday night to see it live!
