On Wednesday, April 12 DO503 return to Holocene with a second edition of their PDX Music Showcase, highlighting some of the cities finest indie rock bands. This time they’ve enlisted the female powerhouse trio Skull Diver, renowned rockers The Hugs and alt psych outfit Space Shark. As usual, PBR is sponsoring a happy hour for the hour before the show starts with RSVP (do that here).
Lead by sisters Ally and Mandy Payne, Skull Diver create a moody, psych-tinged blend of alternative indie rock and goth-pop. Following up on their 2015 self-titled debut, back in March the group unveiled the first ear-worm single, “Bad Star,” off of their upcoming sophomore release, Chemical Tomb, due out May 28th. Keep an eye out for these badass ladies on the come-up!
The Hugs should be somewhat of a household name for fans of Portland music. The group gained near overnight success in 2007 when their demos were discovered via MySpace by a legendary English rock photographer. Though their brief relationship with the Columbia-backed imprint 1965 Records did not ultimately pan out, The Hugs have continued to hone their British-invasion flavored psych rock over the past decade with four full-length releases, two EPs and a handful of singles under their belt.
Psychedelic alternative rock quintet Space Shark have a new single, “Helevator,” slated for release this spring via Pacific Arts Collective NW, but in the meantime bite into their 2016 EP Ghosts.
