Preview: Jackson Boone, Those Willows, Vexations

On Wednesday, May 31, we’re pleased to host a double-headliner of lush, kaleidoscopic indie-pop from up-and-coming local talents, Jackson Boone, Those Willows and Vexations!

Jackson Boone is somewhat of a rare breed of Portland-based musicians, having actually been born and raised here. Having worked with an all-star team of backing musicians and producer-extraordinaire (and former drummer of Unknown Mortal Orchestra), Riley Geare, on his first three LPs, Boone and his band of Ocean Ghosts create a swirling soundscape of dreamy, downtempo, psychedelic tinged folk-pop in a similar vein as Sam Cohen or Kevin Morby.

Co-headliners Those Willows, currently knee deep in the middle of romp up and down the West Coast and Rocky Mountains, will be tour-tight and a must see on May 31, wrapping up their two-week run of shows. Having formed nearly a decade ago in Detroit, Michigan, the group’s particular brand of indie pop is influenced by the sounds of Mo-Town, funk and soul, with tight vocal harmonies and intoxicating energy.

Support for the night comes from Vexations, a group we’re particularly excited to see continue to gain momentum. Lead by Thomas Mabus, a member of Wampire and one of the founders of the infamous NE Portland house venue, Dekum Manor (RIP), and joined by members of The Fur Coats and former members of The Gossip and Cat Hoch Band, Vexations creates a unique and sexy blend of post-disco Bowie and early freak-pop. Keep an eye out!
