Portland’s Floating Room create an ethereal, melancholic brand of shoegaze-tinged indie rock that can foster encapsulating introspection in even the hardest of hearts. Lead by Good Cheer Records’ President and member of Sabonis, Maya Stoner, and her partner Kyle Bates (of Drowse), Floating Room released their debut album Sunless this past November on Good Cheer. The album is a tip of the hat to gloomy Portland weather, and likely late nights tucked in a bedroom recording. With downtempo rhythms blanketed by clouds of reverb-soaked, warbling guitar, Stoner’s soft falsetto carries the moody melodies into a dreamy, atmospheric bliss.
On Wednesday, June 14, Floating Room will perform at Holocene joined by Sinless, who combine elements of 60’s sunshine pop with modern jangly indie pop sensibilities, and minimalist throw-back synth pop outfit Mini Blinds. The night will also serve as a single release show for Sinless. Grab tickets in advance here. RSVP to the event here. Enter to win a pair of tickets to the show here.
