On her latest album, New Black Swing, released on Space Theory Records in June, Seattle-based artist SassyBlack dives further into her unique realm of psychedelic electronic soul sounds, while lyrically exposing a new emotional vulnerability in herself.
Musically, there’s no denying that the former member of THEESatisfaction has culled a welcome influence from 90s R&B–from Boys II Men to Bobby Brown and Toni Braxton to TLC–in the rhythms and synthesizers layered throughout the album. Her vocals melodically stroll across tempos, blending elements of jazz and hip hop, as she explores themes of passion, sensuality and living life, from both a masculine and feminine perspective. On New Black Swing, SassyBlack fearlessly takes command of her own sound, and the album has gained rightful praise from the likes of Huffington Post, Paste Magazine, Bandcamp and more.
On Wednesday, September 6, we’re excited to welcome back SassyBlack back to our stage, joined by locals Blossom, DNVN and VNPRT for an extra dreamy bill, presented in partnership with The Chapter Mag.
