This Saturday, we're excited to host the very talented DJ, dancer, singer, and aficionado of all things Bollywood, Prashant Kakad. His monthly party for Bhangra and Bollywood sounds, Jai Ho! (Hindi for "Victory to you!") is as spectacular as a Bollywood film itself. Far beyond a dance party, the charismatic entertainer Prashant performs for the audience and even leads the crowd in dance routines. The party usually takes place in Lola's Room at the Crystal Ballroom, but we're happy to host its first-ever Eastside appearance for this month only!
The theme this month is "Bollywood Disco," so assemble your finest bedazzled and flared garb for a costume. If you really want to shine like a movie star on the floor, get here by 10pm for a dance lesson! Oh, and it behooves you to come early anyway - the cover is $10, but just $5 if you arrive before 10pm!
For those of you in need of dance moves or outfit inspiration, look no further than our personal favorite piece of Filmi Disco glory: Mumbai's delightfully psychedelic answer to Saturday Night Fever, 1982's Disco Dancer.
The film's theme song:
Also all about this jam - M.I.A.'s "Jimmy" heavily samples this one, and I think it was easily the album highlight of Kala:
Join us on Saturday! As they say in Disco Dancer: "Come, sing, and conquer!"
