Local indie pop innovators Incredible Yacht Control offer up a new album, entitled "Amateur Hypnotist".

8:30pm | $5.00 day of show

A songwriter who styles himself after Martin Newell and Robert Pollard, Bret Vogel has been recording and self releasing homemade cassettes and CDRs of his work under the Incredible Yacht Control moniker for a few years now. His most current offering, Amateur Hypnotist, is a nostalgia-soaked dysmorphic hodgepodge hinting at Roxy Music, the Kitchens of Distinction, and The Supremes. Lyrics for Amateur Hypnotist were composed using an adapted version of William S. Burroughs' "cut up" technique. Equipment used on Amateur Hypnotist includes a Hitachi VHS machine, a Radio Shack cassette player, the mic from Bret's father's Telex headset from the Vietnam war, and a guitar amp made from the PA system of a 1950's public school. Incredible Yacht Control performances, while infrequent, have featured band members culled from Portland comrades including Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Spy Island, and even New Zealand transplants, the Mint Chicks.
