Holocene’s own sound tech Spencer Doran and bandmate Ryan Carlile make up Portland’s luminary experimental duo Visible Cloaks. Last Friday (2.17), the duo unveiled their second album, Reassemblage, out on RVNG Intl., to immediate acclaim, receiving an 8.7 review and ‘Best New Music’ badge from Pitchfork.
Reassemblage delicately balances sounds that are at once ancient and future, biological and artificial. Blending synthetic blips with the sounds of birds and water drops, layered with both historic and otherworldly instrumentation and autotune-affected vocal hums, the album creates a completely unique meditative ambiance. Below watch the psychedelic visual representation of the track “Neume” featuring fellow Portland musician Matt Carlson.
On Tuesday, February 28th, Visible Cloaks will celebrate the release of Reassemblage with a performance at Holocene, joined by Motion Graphics, Massacooramaan and Women’s Beat League DJs.
