David Jackson, aka DJ O.G. One, has been a long-time, essential component of Portland culture, as he’s served as the in-stadium DJ for the Portland Trailblazers games for the past nine years, been an on-air personality on XRAY.FM, and acted as a mentor to fellow musicians, artists and members of the community alike. This past October Jackson was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and in march underwent surgery but woke up to severe complications, without vision and no feeling from his shoulder to his right hand, which he’s been slowly recovering from.
For a man who’s done so much for the Portland community, it’s time for the community to come together to support him. Jackson has a Gofundme page set up that folks can contribute to to help with medical expenses, but local event specialist Starchile has also organized an epic benefit show at Holocene on Sunday, May 7th to help raise funds to help towards Jackson’s recovery as well. Louder Than Words, the benefit show, will feature performances by musicians and artists who Jackson has built relationships with over the years, including Saeeda Wright, Mike Phillips, Farnell Newton & The Othership Connection, Vursatyl, Mic Capes, Jon Belz and DJ Juggernaut.
Please join us in coming together to support this important pillar of the Portland community on his road to recovery. Grab tickets to the benefit show in advance here, and RSVP + invite friends/family to the event here.
