Party-conscious MC and founder of Futro Collective, Neo G Yo celebrates the release his debut full length LP and accompanying book, Hazama, on Wednesday, October 4 at Holocene. The mission of Futro being the integration of creators and talents in an evolving global community, Neo achieved just that with his latest multi-media endeavor, in a cross-cultural exchange of sound, illustration and text through a retro-futurist lens.
With funding from a 2017 grant from Portland’s Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC), the project is uniquely collaborative and dialogic. With production by Winston Lane, engineered by Karl Kling, and guest vocals from Knocktiluca (JPN), Takopeo (JPN), Neill Von Tally, Blossom, DNVN, and more, the album component for Hazama features heavy drums and cosmic synths as Neo tells a story of relationships in a progressive society intent on infinite growth and connectivity.
Once the music was completed, Neo sent the album to Tokyo, Japan-based artist Yu Suda, who created 10 illustrations based on his reactions to each song for the book component of Hazama. With those illustrations, Neo then penned poems in response to the imagery, to accompany each illustration. The album will also be released on a limited run of cassettes in collaboration with local renowned hip hop label EYRST.
Neo G Yo will be joined at Holocene for the release celebration with performances by E*Rock, DNVN and Neill Von Talley, with live visuals by Alex J. Boyce. Advance tickets are available here. RSVP and invite friends to the event here.
