The Portland Black Music Expo is a multi-day entertainment experience and cultural conversation which unifies and reflects the richness of Black people and their culture. This production combines live entertainment in a variety of Black-influenced genres, informative panel discussions, and a hub for community resources. The Expo highlights artistic elements of the Black experience in an inclusive space intended to promote, uplift, and empower patrons from diverse backgrounds both personally and professionally.

Launched in 2020. The Annual Portland Black Music Expo was inspired by the need to bring to the forefront the Black gifts & talents that often get overlooked, unrecognized, undervalued, or uncelebrated in the Pacific Northwest. Founders Tony Ozier and David “O.G.ONE” Jackson wanted to create a platform that amplified and empowered those voices through events that both showcased talents, but also educate others on the Black experience through educational workshops that exposed others to our rich culture, as well as resources and opportunities for personal and professional development.

Vaccine Policy

To keep our customers, staff and community safe, Holocene will require proof of fully-Covid-vaccinated status* for entry into the venue.**

This decision was made in response to the surging and highly transmissible delta variant, in Oregon and across the US. In the close-quarters of a music venue — with customers drinking maskless, singing, dancing, talking in each others’ ears — the best way we can keep customers safe is to ensure the people in the room have the strongest protection from Covid, and especially from its worst outcomes. We appreciate your understanding.

We’re continuing to monitor Oregon Health Authority requirements, vaccination rates and Covid cases and will notify our audience on this page and elsewhere if this policy can be lifted or needs to be adjusted.

*To be considered fully vaccinated, you must have had both shots of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or one shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and have a minimum of 2 weeks that have elapsed since receiving your final dose. Proof of vaccination requires display of your vaccination card, in person or a photo on your phone, so long as the name on the card matches the name on your official ID.

** For those who are unable to receive the vaccine for a medical reason, we may, on a case by case and event by event basis, be able to allow proof of negative COVID PCR test within 24 hours of the event. To be considered for this option, you MUST contact us in advance to make arrangements at hc@holocene.org If you don’t want to or can’t show proof of vaccination for a show, we’ll be happy to give you a refund up to 14 days prior to the show date.
