Matmos w/ Arch Cape – 21+

Based in Baltimore, Matmos is Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt. The two have been making music as Matmos since 1997, first in San Francisco, and then relocating to Baltimore in 2007 when Daniel began to teach at Johns Hopkins University. They are respected, innovative auteurs in the world of electronic music and sampling culture whose very first album was hailed as “entering electronics Valhalla” by the WIRE magazine for sampling highly unusual sound sources such as the amplified nerve tissue of crayfish. Ever since, they have made music out a wildly heterogeneous set of objects and sources, including the sound of the pages of bibles turning, water hitting copper plates, liposuction surgery, cameras and VCRs, chin implant surgery, contact microphones on human hair, rat cages, tanks of helium, a cow uterus, human skulls, snails, cigarettes, cards shuffling, laser eye surgery, whoopee cushions, balloons, latex fetish clothing, rhinestones, Polish trains, insects, life support systems, inflatable blankets, rock salt, solid gold coins, the sound of a frozen stream thawing in the sun, a five gallon bucket of oatmeal, snails interrupting the path of a laser and altering the pitch of a light sensitive theremin, a PVC police riot shield, silicon breast implants, and their own washing machine. These raw materials are manipulated into surprisingly accessible forms, and often supplemented by traditional musical instruments played by internationally celebrated guest musicians from their circle of friends and collaborators. The result is a model of electronic composition as a relational network that connects sources and outcomes together; information about the process of creation activates the listening experience, providing the listener with entry points into sometimes densely allusive, baroque recordings that have the direct sensory immediacy of pop music. — Arch Cape is the experimental percussion-based solo project of musician and artist Rachel Blumberg. Rachel first made a name for herself as the drummer in The Decemberists, and later went on to play, record, and tour with many bands such as M.Ward, Bright Eyes, Mirah, Califone, and many more. Her live performances are largely improvisational and set to her animated and collaged films.

Silicon Radio & Bed of Roses present Sound Metaphors – 21+

On Friday, May 23rd in Portland, OR, Silicon Radio and Bed of Roses are extremely excited to bring Sound Metaphors to Holocene, for a special night of dancing and community. Arguably one of the hardest working entities in Berlin’s underground, including running one of the most renowned record stores in the heart of Kreuzberg and hosting some of the most unforgettable parties in the metropole – such as their recent 10 Year Anniversary throwdown at Berghain/Panorama Bar – it’s fair to say that Sound Metaphors are fully immersed in their dedication to music. And all this is undoubtedly manifested in their vision of dancefloor beliefs when it comes to DJing. With over a decade of experience, it’s very obvious they’ve honed and crafted a sound that is unmistakable, and they’re no strangers to taking a crowd on a meaningful journey. Local support provided by Batom and Palm Pilot. See you at the dance!

DMN (tour kick-off show!) w/ Camp Crush, !mindparade – 21+

DMN (Default Mode Network) is the brainchild of Portland native Ian Wallace, who spent his early musical life as a choirboy and orchestral musician followed by a collegiate vocal jazz program. After too many lost weekends as a sideman in other local projects, Wallace decided to focus on his longstanding love of electronic music and try something new. He joined forces with longtime friend and bandmate Peter Lee (guitar/bass) and PDX music scene veterans Jason Grayle (drums) and Caroline Jackson (keys) to launch a project combining lush synthesizers, danceable rhythms, and live instrumentation. DMN creates groove-forward, melody-driven dance music that bridges the gap between 80s radio-friendly new wave and contemporary indietronica. The band has released two EPs and a self-titled album, Default Mode Network (2023), carving out a space in Portland’s small but vibrant electronic pop scene. With their latest material, DMN delves into themes of growth, rejection, fantasy, and futility—always anchored by a backbeat and ready for the dance floor!  Camp Crush is a synth-pop duo based in Portland, OR, one that pays homage to both nostalgic New Wave and current day synth infused pop. Formed in 2017 by singer/songwriter/ keyboardist Jen Deale and drummer Chris Spicer, the husband-and-wife band launched onto the northwest music scene with their vocal-forward synth-rich pop tunes and dynamic live performance. Happy Mag describes them best: “The duo glide through a cinematic brand of indie-pop that is completely endearing and damn-near mesmerizing.” Partnering with grammy-nominated producer Jorge Elbrecht (Japanese Breakfast, Sky Ferreira, Hatchie) and grammy-winning engineer & producer Rian Lewis (Doja Cat, Gorillaz, Chromeo), Camp Crush released their debut studio LP, Up at Night, on April 11, 2025. Following 4 EPs previously released by the band, Up at Night is the full realization of their sound as a duo. “This new record is our best work yet, pulling the threads on new wave, dark wave and current day inspirations,” Jen says of the new project. “Jorge, our producer for much of this record, really helped us realize the driving and edgier sound to much of these new songs. Balanced with our work with Rian Lewis, we’ve created a unique sound that we couldn’t be more proud of.” Inspired by artists such as Kate Bush, Robyn, Lady Gaga and Depeche Mode the duo continues to evolve, bridging influences of the past to modern day pop sounds. !mindparade blends elements of art rock, psychpop, and experimentalism.  Based in Portland, Oregon, songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Alex Arnold collaborates with friends to flesh out the project’s kaleidoscopic tunes, often utilizing lush string sections and expansive synth explorations. Their music has been described as “an ambitious low-fi bedroom symphony marked by flourishing psychedelic arrangements” (NUVO) and “a perfect slice of what’s best in Oregon Pop Music.” (Oregon Arts Watch)The project has been releasing self-produced records since 2012, originating in the fertile musical town of Bloomington, Indiana.  Since relocating to Portland in 2017, they’ve been performing at venues and festivals across the West Coast, delivering captivating live shows via an ever-shifting setlist. In 2020, the group founded their own label imprint, Neon Underground Archives, in order to release their experimental records Hypertonic (2020) and Skyscapia (2023) and ekopsuƨqoʞɘ (2025).

Disiniblud – w/ Patricia Wolf – 21+

Nina Keith and Rachika Nayar were drawn to one another like mirror images or two sisters reuniting after a lifetime of separation. Four years ago, the artists met in Brooklyn’s two-block–by–two-block Maria Hernandez Park after fan-girling each other’s music online. Dishing about messy post-lockdown long-distance lesbianism, heartfelt investments in Buddhist and Hindu philosophies, and a shared high-school love of the Eternal Sunshine OST, the two found their surface similarities gesturing toward a deeper shared existential worldview.Their kinship—which Rachika describes originating from some “inner-child sisterhood place”—is the heart of their collaborative project Disiniblud and their fairytale-like self-titled LP via Smugglers Way. The two’s self-described “wordless conversation,” the album orbits such themes as mortality, reinvention through destruction, and sublimating fractured histories into music—all resulting in a work that suggests sweeping transformation can come from embracing old wounds with childlike wonder. The two LA-based artists meet on complementary but seemingly disparate musical grounds. On her 2022 breakout LP Heaven Come Crashing, Nayar departed from her usual ambient guitar in favor of maximalist synths, sub-bass, and flickers of Amen breaks. Her distinct fusion of post-rock and electronica earned her accolades as Pitchfork’s Best New Music, on several best of the year lists (The New York Times, Stereogum, Fader, GQ, Bandcamp, etc), and as the opening act on tour with M83. Keith, meanwhile, is best known for her self-trained approach to composition, as evident on her 2019 debut MARANASATI 19111 and its delicate medley of cello, piano, clarinet, and flute, used to explore a personal history marked by community tragedy and paranormal incidents. She expands into new territories on her forthcoming releases, like the single “Come Back Different” featuring Julie Byrne, by incorporating modular synths and intricate vocal arrangements with the help of various collaborators. Their combined artistic strengths exalt together on Disiniblud.
