foamboy (Single Release!), Seance Crasher, Nosila – 21+

foamboy is a Portland-based pop duo comprised of producer Wil Bakula and vocalist Katy Ohsiek. Wil and Katy worked together for many years in other projects before creating their debut pop album, My Sober Daydream, in 2020 and releasing it in 2021. My Sober Daydream has launched this duo into a new stage of their careers. Since then, they have released their sophomore record Eating Me Alive and the Lime, Knife, Time, Hand EP. Foamboy songs have played on KCRW and KEXP, placed on Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists, and led to press coverage from the Portland Mercury and Willamette Week, the latter describing foamboy as one of Portland’s “Best New Bands.” The band is currently playing frequent shows on the west coast and is in the process of recording the next LP.   —   Seance Crasher is the recording alias of Portland artist Kevin Rafn, accompanied on stage by Lia Gist, Scott Harlan, and Tyler Verigin. Through moody lyricism and anachronistic synth strokes, the band creates a sonic world of blue-eyed soul and sophisticated pop. Unique narratives are at the heart of each tune. Seance Crasher released their first full-length LP, Air Apparent, in the Spring of 2023. They are currently working on a follow-up studio album. —   Nosila began her musical journey armed with a classical singing degree in one hand and a guitar in the other. For years, she followed the well-trodden path of a folk singer-songwriter, but it wasn’t until she moved to Portland, OR in 2017 that she truly found her voice. Starting over in a new city meant leaving behind her usual collaborators. Instead of rushing to replace them, she embraced the challenge of producing music herself. As she learned the craft, it became clear her sound was evolving beyond folk. In 2018, Nosila rebranded and began releasing pop music, carving out her own niche in what she calls “sad girl electropop.” In 2019, she released her debut EP, drawing inspiration from artists like Dirty Projectors, The Japanese House, Billie Eilish, James Blake, and Sylvan Esso. Her second EP, It Will Never Be Like It Was, leaned into 80s-inspired drums, vocoder-heavy tracks like “Lonely,” and explored themes of love and the complex process of letting go of the baggage from her religious upbringing. Nosila’s sound is a blend of earworm melodies, filtered vocal layers, minimalistic drums, and elements borrowed from R&B, indie, and 80s and 90s pop. These sonic textures serve as a canvas for stories about addiction, betrayal, justice, connection, healing—and even joy. While her music has embraced a decidedly pop direction, it retains the lyrical depth and emotional resonance of her folk roots, a testament to the early days of her musical journey.

Shy Honey’s music features epic, reverberant guitars and moody keys with a “prom night” desperation. The music is upbeat, dark and dance worthy with a subtle nod to the sounds that defined music of the 80s and 90s. Gilbert’s honey-dripped vocals float over synthy pop keys and catchy guitar riffs. Both modern and retro, catchy and experimental, Shy Honey is putting a spin on electro pop in a fresh way. The band played their debut show at Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, OR and two days later, they were asked to open for a People’s Choice Award nominated podcast, “Off the Vine” hosted by Kaitlyn Bristowe (former Bachelorette) at a sold out Aladdin Theater. Their singles can be heard on TV shows on CBS and AppleTV – as well as local Portland radio stations. — Camp Crush is a synth-pop duo based in Portland, OR, one that pays homage to both nostalgic New Wave and current day synth infused pop. Formed in 2017 by singer/songwriter/ keyboardist Jen Deale and drummer Chris Spicer, the husband-and-wife band launched onto the northwest music scene with their vocal-forward synth-rich pop tunes and dynamic live performance. One can talkabout Brìghde’s awards (BBC Young Folk Award; BBC Horizons Award; SAY Awardnominee) and her wide array of collaborators (Caroline Polachek; Colin Stetson; Gruff Rhys;Aidan O’Rourke…) but after it all, her music speaks for itself.Haunting, entrancing, breathtaking, beautiful – this open-eared, understatedly virtuosicperformer is transforming and creating new definitions for Scottish folk in the 21st century.    with support from Marisa Anderson

Hot Flash Heat Wave & Mind’s Eye – w/ Roe Kapara – All Ages!

San Francisco band Hot Flash Heat Wave rose to prominence in the Bay Area music scene in 2015 with the release of their debut album Neapolitan. Their versatile sound, at times reminiscent of dreamy psychedelia, power pop, and post-punk, demonstrates a dynamic range of songwriting prowess centered around consistently infectious, sun-soaked melodies and guitar hooks. Hot Flash Heat Wave is Adam Abildgaard, Nick Duffy, and Ted Davis. The trio hails from Davis, California, where they met in high school through a shared interest in music. Maintaining a DIY ethos instilled by their teenage roots in the Davis/Sacramento punk scene, the group still creates most of their artwork and merchandise themselves. Continuing their habit of self-reinvention, the band has garnered growing attention with the early 2019 release of a short-but-sweet EP, titled Mood Ring, and a self-made music video for its leading single ‘Glo Ride’.   An ambitious blending of genres, the EP is a divergence from anything we’ve heard from the group to date, diving deep into themes of introspection and emotional turmoil while still managing a flavor that is uniquely theirs. — Mind’s Eye are in the midst of a career-making year, including their first US headline tour (sold out shows in Orange County, San Diego, Phoenix, and LA @ El Rey), support tours with late night drive home and Hockey Dad, and nearing 70 million global streams. Over the course of the past two years, the high-energy quintet have developed a rampantly loyal and perpetually growing fanbase, depicted beautifully here in the band’s recent TikTok. Hailing from the backyards and skateparks of the Bay Area indie scene, Mind’s Eye blends elements of SoCal indie, surf, and alt rock to create their signature sound. Jangly guitar riffs, melodic bass lines, and lyrics that reflect on love and heartbreak are all staples of the band’s style. Following the success of their breakout single “Wasted Affairs,” they debuted their full-length studio album Long Nights and Wasted Affairs, and the record’s fresh sounds and more experimental production made the band a staple in the SoCal indie scene.
