Shanea, Tony Horses, Pale Violet – 21+

Shanea is a singer songwriter based in Portland Oregon, whose writing spans the depths of indie folk to rock. They have been featured on Portland Radio Project with their songs “Bathroom Floor” and “My Kind” from their EP “The Fifth House.” They have captivated audiences in Portland with their live performances solo as well as with their band. They are able to move people with their heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies. Their love for songwriting and dedication to the deeply personal makes their discography ever evolving. They are inspired by the lyrics and composition of artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Fiona Apple, and Adrianne Lenker. They released an EP ‘The Fifth House’ in 2019 and released their single “Bathroom Floor” in 2020. Their newest release is ‘Root Rot’ in 2024   Tony Horses are an indie rock band formed by jasper Gill and Caleb Ballard. The band includes John Wallent on lead guitar, Karenna hall on the bass, and Danny Austin manning on the keys. Tony horses blends country rock songcraft with modern experimental and pop elements.   Pale Violet is the collaborative effort of Mahalia Lind-Diamond (guitar/vocals) and Jordan Porto (guitar/synthesizers/production).   Active since 2021, their lyrics draw from Lind-Diamond’s work as a mental health counselor, reflecting on love, tenderness, grief, depression, and uncertainty. Songs process feelings and internal processes that are complex, and often discomforting. The band has taken many forms over the past few years, but for this show only (!!) the lineup will consist of an extended cast of collaborators and friends from Portland and beyond.

Smerz – Big city life Smerz’ big city comes to life on stage with one finger piano riffs, strings presets, drums and voices, telling stories lived and imagined.Smerz is the Norwegian duo of Henriette Motzfeldt and Catharina Stoltenberg, based in Oslo and Copenhagen. The duo is set to release their sophomore album, Big city life, on May 23 through Danish label Escho. Using collages to capture moments of everyday life and dreams, Smerz tell stories of love, apathy, solitude and friendship. The pair operates at the intersection of genres, drawing inspiration from compositional techniques in classical music, the experimentation of computer music and the immediacy of pop music, all in the palettes of girly existentialism. The duo’s discography includes the critically acclaimed debut album Believer on XL Recordings, EPs Have fun and Okey, released through XL and Escho, as well as pop fantasy project ALLINA and choir piece Tidligere den dagen with vocal ensemble GAEA on their own label Shopping. Modern Nature w/ Brigid Dawson & The Mothers Network- Early Show – 21+

When Modern Nature toured their last album, 2023’s No Fixed Point In Space, it became apparent to Jack Cooper – the band’s main creative force – that they were already pulling away from the free, open-ended approach they had spent five years working towards; almost as if the music had become so abstract and elasticated, it now had to snap back towards something more structured. As they found themselves naturally locking into more fixed grooves, he realized a new direction had been set. Their new album – The Heat Warps – is the triumphant manifestation of where that new direction took them. In the aftermath, Cooper’s songwriting, which had become increasingly impressionistic, found a new focus and the idea of making an album that followed a similar path to the last two increasingly seemed obtuse. The purpose was to forge a radical change. The core trio of him, Jim Wallis (drums) and Jeff Tobias (bass guitar) were augmented by a new guitarist – Tara Cunningham.  Modern Nature’s recent records have reflected an insular life. Cooper had moved out to the countryside in 2021 and had, in his words, been “hibernating” while he started a family. He felt this new band was a symbol for his reawakening and the perfect vessel for him to continue to explore themes that he’s sung about with Modern Nature – collectivism, our relationship with the natural world, the weight of consciousness – but with more directness and purpose. The key was the new dual guitar sound. “I’ve always been drawn to bands where two guitarists work as a unit to move around and colour the rhythm section,” explains Cooper. “I’d been listening to the demos Television did with Brian Eno in the day and then that night I played with Tara for the first time at an improvised music show. We have a very similar approach to the guitar and that extends to the way we sing, so it gives the music an interesting balance. “What we do is mirrored; a symmetry on either side of what Jim and Jeff are doing in the rhythm section. We’ve played with lots of amazing musicians who continue to orbit around what we do, but Tara joining the band felt like finding the other side to the square. Previous records have been performed by upwards of fifteen people but it was apparent the four of us could achieve something more powerful and more direct.”

Safe Mind – 21+

Safe Mind is the collaborative project of Augustus Muller and Cooper B. Handy. Muller is one half of the beloved electronic duo Boy Harsher, a cornerstone in the contemporary goth and darkwave scene. Handy is an underground sensation, making a name for himself with his left field approach to beatmaking through his solo persona LUCY and various recording projects (The Taxidermist, Club Casualties). Featuring club-ready bass, punchy drum beats, and post-punk guitar lines alongside Handy’s singular voice, the band’s first single “6’ Pole” introduces listeners us to the duo’s playful pop sound. In 2020, Muller approached Handy to collaborate on a track for Boy Harsher’s album, The Runner (Original Soundtrack), and the result was the anthemic album standout “Autonomy.” Handy’s loose take on songwriting proved an unlikely match with Muller’s neurotic attention to detail and production experience. Handy and Muller took note of their chemistry and continued to casually work on music over the next few years. As the tracks started to accumulate, they acknowledged a shared emphasis on honesty and innocence in the songs they were making and Safe Mind was born.

Daisy the Great – The Rubber Teeth Talk Tour – All Ages

Emerging from the depths of Brooklyn’s indie music scene, Daisy the Great is the utterly infectious project of Kelley Dugan and Mina Walker. The duo first met as acting majors at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where they began co-writing a musical about a fictional band before realizing they could make it happen in real life and set out as Daisy the Great. Inspired by artists like Fiona Apple and Bowie, Daisy the Great’s imaginative and clever songwriting meets whimsy and an unmistakable rawness to bring their music to life. Following the immediate success of “The Record Player Song,” the band released their debut full-length I’m Not Getting Any Taller in 2019, followed by 2020’s quarantine-born Soft Songs EP , and their 2022 masterful sophomore album, All You Need Is Time, which has garnered 500M streams to date. The last couple of years have seen Daisy the Great rise to new heights – collaborating with artists like illuminati hotties and Claud, playing major festivals like Lollapalooza and Firefly, and joining The Kooks and The Vaccines on their 2024 North American headline tour. Last October, the band released the kaleidoscopic EP Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti, which saw notable praise from Atwood Magazine, Northern Transmissions, Spinning Platters, LaunchLeft, and tons more. With sonic experimentation and stellar songwriting on full display, Daisy the Great showcased a new side of their indie prowess, marking them artists to watch in the space. 2025 is expected to be even more exciting as the band has been in the studio for the last couple of months with GRAMMY® award-winning producer Catherine Marks (boygenius, St. Vincent, Wolf Alice) working on new material.
