quickly, quickly – w/ Lionmilk, Xinxin – All Ages

The new quickly, quickly EP finds Portland, Oregon’s Graham Jonson back in his home studio, engrossed in ‘60s psychedelic soul music, imagining some bygone era where it was all about the drum sounds and tape decay. He calls it Easy Listening; the songs are short and inviting, modest yet loaded with ideas. Each started with the drum part, a loose grid for Jonson to paint his idiosyncratic psych-pop across, again playing nearly every instrument. The set follows his 2021 LP, The Long And The Short of It, the 22-year-old musician’s debut on Ghostly International, a coming-of-age jump from the chill beats-oriented corners of the internet to a full-fledged songwriting project with hi-fi sophistication. The moment culminated with Pitchfork’s Rising profile, “quickly, quickly’s Technicolor Pop Bursts Beyond the Algorithm,” and kickstarted the formation of his 6-piece live band for a run of exploratory shows along the west coast. But as the tangible demands for his music pulled him outward and some growing pains in his personal life ensued, Jonson focused his energy back inside; to the comforts of home recording, filling his space with more gear and sessions with friends. Maybe a bit of a droll title for a hard time, Easy Listening briefly pauses for air, offering five of his breeziest basement jams for public enjoyment.Lionmilk is Mokichi Kawaguchi: pianist, composer and producer. Born in LA, he grew up listening to his mother’s classical radio in the morning, his brother’s hip hop CDs during the day and his father’s jazz records in the evening. From the thriving underground electronic music scene to the expansive local jazz community, his work reflects his life path and the city’s ever changing tendencies.XINXIN, pronounced “chin-chin”, is a genre-bending quartet from the suburbs of LA and the Inland Empire. Janize Ablaza (Vocals, guitar), Stephen Reed (drums), Carlos Elias (bass), and Jonah Huang (Keyboards), interplay expressively in efforts to channel the energy and honesty of the universal “child within”. As playful as it is spiritual, Xinxin strives to convey the range of the human experience in their music in which insecurity, humility, trauma, and peace coexist. This philosophy is paralleled by their eclectic influences which include grunge, jazz, metal, RnB, and electronic music. The four-piece debuted their first full-length album ‘Xinxin’ with Preference Records in November of 2020 that included their singles ‘Trust’ and ‘Control’ which received heavy rotation on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic. You can experience their latest releases ‘In Perfect Time’ and ‘Clarity’ – perhaps in your car, on your way home from a long a** day of work – available now on all streaming platforms!

MOVED TO WONDER BALLROOM: Glass Beams: North American Tour – w/ Arushi Jain – 21+
We have moved this event to Wonder Ballroom to accommodate more fans! All tickets purchased for the Holocene show will be honored at Wonder Ballroom. Tickets are on sale now for Wonder Ballroom!GLASS BEAMS:The genesis for the Melbourne-based trio, which formed around founding member Rajan Silva, was through the rekindling of childhood memories relating to his father, who emigrated to Melbourne from India in the late 1970’s. Silva recalled watching a DVD on repeat with his father; ‘Concert for George’, a star-studded tribute to late Beatles member George Harrison performed at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2002, featuring legendary Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar with daughter Anoushka, alongside Western icons Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and ELO’s Jeff Lynne. This intersection of musical styles was reflected in the record collection of Silva’s father, where the sounds of iconic Bollywood vocalists Asha Bhosle and the Mangeshkar lineage sat alongside music from blues legends like B.B. King and Muddy Waters. In particular, Silva was drawn to the fusion of Western musical styles and traditional Indian music; a concept pioneered by Indian artists like R.D. Burman, Ananda Shankar, and fraternal duo Kalyanji-Anandji. This cross-pollination of East and West, of old and new, is a sentiment that the band have sought to capture in their self produced works. Across their output, Glass Beams presents a timeless fusion of cultures and sounds beamed through a prism of live instrumentation and DIY electronica, all wrapped up inside a mesmerizing and mystical visual world of their own making. Their debut EP ‘Mirage’, released in 2021 catapulted them into the collective consciousness of new followers who came to discover their serpentine, psychedelic-tinged tracks through social media, streaming services and word of mouth, with the vinyl copies selling-out as quickly as it could be pressed via grassroots record store support. In the wake of the unexpected success of their debut release and an abundance of festival invitations, Glass Beams were amplified around the globe performing hypnotic renditions of the ‘Mirage’ EP alongside an additional 20 minutes of unreleased music. Early clips of these “unreleased tracks” quickly began circulating online garnering millions of views and a fast-growing and ever-hungry following. As 2023 drew to a close and the dust settled after a whirlwind of touring, Glass Beams retreated to their home studio to record this much anticipated 20 minutes of music. They have named the record ‘Mahal’. ‘Mahal’ EP is out digitally on March 22nd and out on vinyl May 17th on Ninja Tune. with support from Arushi Jain
