ι£Ÿε“γΎγ€γ‚Š a.k.a Foodman, Carly Barton, SH (Francisco Botello and Zack Rowe) 21+

Takahide Higuchi a.k.a Foodman, creates music that defies categorisations – and is one of the few artists that actually fit this overused description. There are traces of almost every electronic music genre, from juke, footwork, ambient, house, techno, to noise, but those elements are dissected and morphed together then driven to extreme without giving you a second to come up with a definitive genre. The noisy technicolour of these borderline versatile or schizophrenic collages is borne out of his experiments (or accidents) and has titillated, confused, and enchanted music obsessives far and wide. After releasing his debut album from NY/OH experimental label Orange Milk, his music has been released from international labels including Diplo’s Mad Decent and its offshoot Good Enuff. His ever-evolving and mutating musical vocabulary draws from every kind of music he stumbles across, from Chicago footwork to Okinawan folk music of his roots, ambient to J-pop, Talvin Singh’s Indian classical music/drum ‘n’ bass fusion to classic video game soundtracks, then twists them all with his playful psychedelia. This extends to his remixes and DJ mixes, including his monthly residency at NTS radio mix, which was picked up on Pitchfork’s 10 Best DJ Mixes of March 2017 list. Since playing his first show outside of Japan in mid 2016, he has appeared on Boiler Room, Low End Theory, and Unsound just to name a few, as well as headline shows across the US and Europe. In July 2021, the album Yasuragi Land was released on Hyperdub. The album was voted best of the year by various national and international media, including Pitchfork’s The Best Electronic Music of 2021. The new EP “Uchigawa Tankentai” was released from Hyperdub in November 2023.   Carly Barton:   Carly Barton has spent the last decade+ immersed in Portland’s creative community as a composer, DJ, and visual artist. The bulk of their music catalog prioritizes world-building electronic music, dub, and contemporary piano composition, exploring and creating genre-bending scapes with a specialty in collage and controlled chaos. Most of Carly’s work is self-published: sheet music, concept EPs, Vidya World (an imagined 12-part game soundtrack), Anime Resource Center, OST, Subs Before Dubs, Carb’s Bong Orchestra, and the occasional crossword, with additional releases/remixes with friends and labels near and far (MANIC!, Disposable Commodities, Blankstairs, secondnature, iideo, The Periphery).   SH:   SH is the Portland-based duo Francisco Botello and Zackary Rowe (Bathwater, Nuisance), two experimental musicians embedded in the city’s underground music circuits for nearly a decade. Emerging first as sharon, the project has evolved from hardware-based sample destruction to custom-built digital tools, dismantling sequencing conventions while privileging improvisation, system volatility, and chance operations. Their sonic language draws from glitch, early computer music, free jazz, and footwork—assembling momentary structures that slip into dissolution just as quickly. Embracing ambience as discomfort and glitch as comfort, SH continues to trace a trajectory driven by self-interrogation.Beyond sound, SH’s practice extends into spatial, curatorial and cinematic realms. As founding members of the underground house venue Freque Space, they cultivated a vital zone for the Portland experimental music scene to prosper. The duo are also resident DJs for the annual Off the Grid mini-festival. In 2019, their work expanded into immersive media with Four Corners, a spatialized audiovisual experience debuting at the Portland Art Museum. Their upcoming EP will be released by Hole Recordings.

(SOLD OUT) hey, nothing w/ Worry Club – The 33Β° Tour – EARLY SHOW! – All Ages

Barely 20 years old, the Atlanta-based emo-folk duo hey, nothing – Tyler (he) & Harlow (they) – wades through complex emotions with sharp wit and humor.   They have sold out runs of headlining shows, garnered notices from the likes of NPR Music, Alternative Press, Pigeons & Planes, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, & more. They hit ~100k total streams per day, with their fanbase on both TikTok and Instagram swiftly approaching the 300k mark each.   2024’s Maine EP — written, fittingly, in a small cabin in the middle of Maine — was a major breakthrough moment for the band, incorporating earnest and cutting lyrics that pull directly from their experience of the hardships of growing up too early, too fast. They’ll continue carving a bold path forward with a new EP, 33°, on 2/14; they’ve already been announced as part of the lineups for 2025’s Kilby Block Party and Bonnaroo, and they’ll be announcing more 2025 tour dates soon. Yung Bae w/ Tourmaline – Early Show – 21+

THIS IS AN EARLY SHOW! SCHEDULE IS AS FOLLOWS: 5pm-6pm TOURMALINE 6pm-8pm – YUNG BAE   YUNG BAE: No one jumps into things the way Yung Bae does. Whether on a massive festival stage, in the lab with one of his many collaborators, or in the booth for his highly acclaimed and wide-ranging Apple Music radio show, the musical polymath born Dallas Cotton vaults skyward without ever looking back, consistently discovering new heavenly territory. And on his latest leap, Groove Continental: Side B (due August 18 via Bae’s own Groove Continental label and Downtown Distro), the musical wizard lands squarely amongst candy-colored ‘70s clouds and disco dazzle jet streams. “When I start to work on a record, I just know if I’m feeling it or not,” he explains. “So I immediately chucked all my analog synths, bought a bunch of old ’60s and ’70s gear, and got to work. I originally rooted my music in sampling so it seemed like a no-brainer to make the switch and start creating my own samples to work from and chop.”   A pioneering sampler, producer, and songwriter, each new Bae record carves out its own unique world, touching on everything from vaporwave to funk, Japanese city pop to electropop. After making a mark via a major label, he jumped back to the independent world where he could chase down his wildest creative ideas—including a slinky nautical journey for 2022’s Groove Continental: Side A, and a turn into a retrofuturist disco aerospace for the followup.    Tourmaline is a prominent and accomplished Pacific Northwest DJ/ Producer with a seismic career of translating life through the expression of a dance floor. She has cultivated her sound by infusing her genres of interests into deep, soulful, ethereal, nu-disco, house and electronic music that takes you on a journey. Additionally, including partnerships with Adidas, SoHo House, and Sesame Collective to name a few.  She broadcasts her own radio show, Sonic Gardens, each 4th Thursday of the month on Samewave Radio. A go to radio series for the curated palette and lover of electronic music.

Kelly Lee Owens w/Light Asylum (DJ Set) – 21+

When she was in high school, Kelly Lee Owens won two certificates: one was for music lover of the year, the other was for daydreamer of the year. “Even as a kid my mum said I would daydream a lot—she called it ‘Kelly’s World,’” the musician and DJ laughs. These prophecies provided the foundation for her career as a respected name in electronic music for ethereal work that uses the steely nature of the genre to articulate a connection with something greater. Her latest album Dreamstate is a monument to dreaming, and is the hotly anticipated debut release for The 1975’s George Daniel’s new electronic music imprint on Dirty Hit, dh2. Its pop melodies elevate techno beats to tell a story of heartbreak and subsequent recovery and growth through choosing to gaze higher.  As such, Dreamstate is built on the foundations of collaboration, with writing-features from Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar (on the blissful sunrise trance track ‘Rise’) and The Chemical Brothers (on the soft Björk-esque ‘Ballad (In The End)’). “I was so curious to see where my energy could meet with someone else’s,” the highly independent creator explains. “And, more importantly, if I was capable of still being the Executive Producer and it still sounding like me, even though I’m working with different people to write.”  Dreamstate is self Produced by Kelly Lee Owens, mixed by David Wrench with additional production, programming from George Daniel, BICEP, Tom Rowland, Phil Scully, Oli Bayston, James Greenwood.

Alice Longyu Gao: The Debut Trilogy Tour – w/ Lor2mg, Barn Radio DJs – 21+

For Alice Longyu Gao, remaining indefinable has proven to be one of their most formidable strengths. As one of the pioneers of the hyperpop movement, Longyu Gao — forged a path for themselves by channeling unfiltered humor and rage into their energetic work. Alice strives to open portals to their past, present and future through their work, a nonlinear journey reflected upon their debut trilogy, consisting of EP 1: High Dragon And Universe, EP 2: Let’s Hope Heteros Fail, Learn, and Retire, and EP 3: Assembling symbols into my own poetry. Released October 23rd 2024 via ÂŁÏÇÉ THE ŁÄBĘŁ, Assembling Symbols Into My Own Poetry takes the words that they’ve spent their entire career scrutinizing and throws them skyward, allowing vulnerability to take control. It’s the sound of a cup that has simply floweth over, it’s the sound of an artist who’s ready to lay it all bare in the name of love. “These songs were made when my life felt alive again. This music talks to my romantic soul, the fountain in my heart, which is where my art has come from since birth,” Longyu Gao say of the project. Much like the fountain from which it came, Assembling offers space for reflection — demolishing childhood trauma on “Little Piggy” or reaching anthemic epiphany on the Danny Brown collaboration “Bird W/O Nest” — and out flows a pure expression of the messy multi-facet that make up the human experience.  Support from: Lor2mg, and Barn Radio Resident DJs
