Starover Blue (single release), goodgrief (album release), Tim Yee – 21+

Starover Blue The nostalgic tones of a Juno-106 combine with ambient layers, sparkling guitars, and airy, bittersweet vocals to define Portland dream pop band Starover Blue. Founding members Kendall Sallay and Dirk Milotz began the group in 2007 while studying music at San Jose State University, then relocated to Portland in 2016 where they reformed as a six-piece. The band’s penchant for lush vocal harmonies, textural experimentation, and subtle use of odd meters appeals to fans of acts ranging from Cocteau Twins, Beach House, and Big Thief to The Joy Formidable, The Velvet Teen, and Wye Oak. A new LP is underway for 2024 release, taking inspiration from heavier-hitting indie rock versus the synth pop textures of 2019 LP Ordinary Magic and 2016 debut Spacegeist. goodgrief The new project from prolific Northwest songwriter Ezekiel Rudick, goodgrief draws inspiration from the depths of memory and the gray skies of Seattle in equal measure. Written, performed, and produced by the artist in his home studio, the first single, “this one’s about you” draws inspiration from the early ‘90s shoegaze sounds of bands like Drop Nineteens and Low while infusing it with the same rich poetic and sonic depth Rudick has brought to both his long-running project Young Elk and his collaborative effort with Starover Blue’s Kendall Sallay, The Slow Sound. The debut LP, ‘love birds’ mines the depths of emotional turmoil and nostalgia in equal parts. These melancholy aspects act as a foil to Rudick’s energetic performances and catchy riffs that seem looser and more free than his work in previous projects. ‘love birds’ is out Sept. 1, 2023 on Rue Defense. Tim Yee From solo road-tripping couch stories to conversations with God, Portland-based Tim Yee pairs these topics with some electric guitar-driven music containing flares of Indie rock that’s full of deep reverb and chorus, and a dollop of Alternative with its crunchy guitar riffs to keep you paying attention. The heart and soul of the music from Tim Yee are derived from deep-dived spiritual journeys and questions concerning faith, purpose, and the meaning of life’s events, with the hope of creating a space where people don’t feel alone in the struggle to understand life. With interlacing intricate guitar riffs, rip-roarin’ solos, and compelling bass lines to get you groovin’, these musical sounds and melodies are influenced by bands like Turnover, Beach Fossils, Coldplay, and more. With two E.P.s in the bag (Want You Next to Me and Blue Hair), Tim Yee has more music in the works and hopes to share soon!
