Lola Young – w/ Chlothegod – All Ages

This event is entirely sold out, thank you Portland!22-year-old Lola Young has one of those voices. You know, the ones that are impossible to ignore: made for smoky dark clubs as much as hushed arenas, it’s got a depth, rawness and huskiness that reduces crowds to pin-drop silence. Where previous releases have seen Lola interrogating her life with honesty, My Mind Wanders And Sometimes Leaves Completely is a new era for the young singer-songwriter. Love is a theme she’ll always tackle in her music, she says – “it’s the most relatable topic, isn’t it?” – but on this project she’s fully stepped out of her comfort zone, testing her writing ability to confront new topics, while mining new depths of her creativity. On My Mind Wanders And Sometimes Leaves Completely, Lola set out with the idea that no one is two-dimensional, or perfect. Armed with that vocal that switches between soft and strong at a moment’s notice, Lola uses a folk storytelling and diaristic style to offer the listener a front seat to immersive snapshots of her life. “It’s my journey towards being a woman and figuring out who I am,” she says. “There’s a lot of references to people telling me I won’t make it [in the music industry]. It’s almost me talking to myself, addressing the difficulties you go through growing up, your insecurities.” Dealing with themes such as love bombing, gaslighting, body image and depression among others, it’s a relatable listen for any young person growing up today. It’s peppered with vivid details, like her ex buying her a record to play on her birthday – “don’t even listen to punk, do you know me?” she sings on “Semantic Situation”), and someone saying she needed to read a book titled How To Be Happy, “and I think that was a bit of a dig” (“Revolve Around You”). While ballads are undoubtedly her thing, there’s a distinctly London edge to Lola’s music, bolstered by her love of old hip hop and UK rap. She’s not averse to a crossover, too: she collaborated with Arrdee on his “Who Woulda Thought” track, and has brought that inner-city edge to the new project which has “a house party feel,” she says. To put the record together, she flew to LA, meeting producers and songwriters like Frank Ocean favourite Malay, Cass Lowe (Tinashe, Ray BLK) and Jim-E Stack (Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek). There was never really any question about whether Lola would become a singer. She started writing poetry and songs aged 11, before doing her first pub gig at 13. She enrolled into the prestigious Brit school and released her debut full-length, Intro, aged just 19. She comes from a musical and creative family; born in Croydon to a Jamaican-Chinese father and English mother, and raised in Beckenham, South East London. Once she started releasing (the mature, personal Renaissance was her three-tracked debut), the accolades came in thick and fast: a Brit Rising Star nomination, Amazon Next Breakthrough artist, a spot on the BBC Sound Of… poll, an Elton John co-sign, an Island Records signing. No artist likes comparisons, but Adele – the one Lola gets constantly – is one she happily takes. Coming from a lineage of powerful female British vocalists, Lola Young is undeniably on the path to greatness. Shrugging off the “rising star” label to cement herself as one of the country’s rawest talents at just 22, her debut project My Mind Wanders And Sometimes Leaves Completely is a defining statement: a work of pain, heartbreak, and inner strength.

Spend The Night & 3024 Present: Martyn, Sister Zo – w/ Carly Barton – 21+

This event was rescheduled from January 13th over to April 13th, due to inclement weather in January. All tickets purchased for the January show will be honored at this new April date!Spend The Night & 3024 Present: Martyn 3024 – DC https://ra.co/dj/martyn http://www.3024world.com/ https://www.instagram.com/martyn3024/ https://3024.bandcamp.com/ Sister Zo 3024, Scuffed – NYC https://ra.co/dj/sisterzo https://www.instagram.com/sister_zo https://sisterzo.bandcamp.com/Carly Barton MARTYN:Throughout his winding journey in electronic music, Dutch-born Martijn Deijkers, aka Martyn, has always stood in a genreless scene of his own. Based in Washington, D.C., Martyn builds his aesthetic around musicality and energy in equal parts. His back catalogue embodies melancholy and dancefloor hypnotism, tracing back to his roots in UK-originated hybrids of bass music with an added flavour of hi-tech, Detroit-influenced jazz. As an explorer of several sonic palettes since the mid-90s, his sound shifts between dancefloor-driven D’n’B, house and techno. But these days, Martyn is more than just a DJ and producer. His work spans multiple projects, from mentoring emerging artists to platforming new producers through his 3024 label. In 2007, he co-founded the 3024 imprint alongside visual artist Erosie. The duo have released a celebrated body of work from producers like Jacques Greene, Leon Vynehall and Martyn himself, including Martyn’s collaborations with Spaceape and OM Unit. Classic remixes supplied by Ben Klock and Flying Lotus have also left a significant stamp on the label’s evolving collection. More recently, 3024 has signed fresh talents including Otik, Sister Zo and TSVI / Anunaku. Soundwise, 3024 has no policy. Everything from dub to breaks to techno snakes through the label, with no sound too weird or wonky. Today, Martyn signs burgeoning talent to 3024, most of whom stem from his Artist Mentoring Program on Patreon. Launched in 2020, Martyn uses the Program as an outlet to mentor producers at all stages. He bridges the gap between beginners, rising artists and established names by offering one-to-one lessons, group sessions and Q&As with renowned figures like Luke Slater, Skee Mask and dBridge. Martyn connects the Program with 3024 by releasing a selection of his student’s work in the form of V/A compilations. The pandemic allowed Martyn to rethink archaic structures in dance music. Rather than get swept up in the smoke and mirrors of the industry, Martyn decided to help producers looking to break into a notoriously guarded scene. Martyn meets his students and cultivates a community to make a difference on the ground and nurture genuine student-teacher connections. With two decades of experience as a touring artist, Martyn has performed worldwide, released music on Ostgut Ton, Brainfeeder, Intercept and many more besides, and landed a residency at Panorama Bar in Berlin where he remains a resident DJ today. Like his productions, Martyn’s style of DJing is uncategorizable. His monthly ‘Darkest Light’ show on NTS Radio offers a glimpse into his far-reaching world, but similar to his approach to DJing and producing, Martyn’s trajectory continues to chop and change.
Cyane (fka Dolphin Midwives), Meroitic, Cha Cha – 21+

Due to an injury, this event was rescheduled from Feb 7th over to April 14th. All tickets purchased for the February date will be honored at this new April date.Cyane is the new project of Portland experimental composer, harpist, and vocalist, Sage Fisher. Through the lens of the naiad, Cyane, she explores the impossible betweens and shadows inhabited by femmes, both currently and throughout western colonialist history, as well as the immense resilience and power in witnessing, honoring and bringing to light the hidden intricacies of this ancestral balancing act. Inspired by early choral music, electronic pop, avant classical and R&B, Cyane uses harp, voice and electronics for a performance that dances between disguise and exposé.meroitic is a sound & movement based project of black interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary artist & composer jamondria harris. Their work uses words, sounds, wires, theremin, synthesizers, instruments, textiles & what falls into their hands to engage with blackness, desire, spirit/source,narratology/folklore, & ontologies of liberation & embodiment.Their sound art emerges from deep-listening fluidity between rhythm & source, engendering sonic cartographies woven from samples, feedback, the electromagnetic field of bodies & rooms and both digital and analog synthesizer soundscapes.Their albums are available on Fallen Moon Recordings. Conjuring sound spells via vinyl, digital field recordings, tape and live sound manipulation, Cha Cha moves beyond DJ performance and into sound curation and vibe management. Drawing on experiences from Chill Rooms in the late 90s Portland Rave scene, Cha Cha knows the value and art of creating one of a kind sound environments that transcend time, space, and sub bass.
Jordan Ward: WESTWARD – w/ Ru ARE YOU – Early show! – All Ages

This event is entirely sold out. Thank you Portland!Raised in St. Louis, Jordan Ward is quickly emerging as one of R&B’s rising stars. Developing an affinity for music and dance at a very early age, Jordan polished his skillset after first trying his hand as a choir member before transitioning into musical theatre. His influences include a diverse roster of music luminaries ranging from Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, Kanye West, Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, and more. After first experimenting with rap, Ward later focused on singing and dancing. By 18, he moved to Los Angeles to chase a career as a dancer. Ward’s precocious dance abilities earned him gigs as a dancer for Justin Bieber, Becky G, Janet Jackson and Beyonce, as he appeared in the singer’s Homecoming documentary for her epic Coachella performance. In 2017, Ward began his musical quest after releasing his EP, A Peak at the Summit followed by the full-length, Valley Hopefuls and stellar EP, Remain Calm which included the infectious single, “Lil Baby Crush”. It wasn’t until his 2023 debut album, FORWARD, that Ward became the talk of R&B and Hip Hop. His project was propelled by singles “WHITE CROCS” and “FAMJAM4000”, Executive Produced by Lido. Ward’s momentum has remained consistent through global touring with JID, Smino, 6LACK, and a sold out solo headline run. His recent output has also been co-signed by Tyler The Creator, J.Cole, No I.D., Rolling Stones (The Best Albums of 2023), Complex Magazine (15 Best Songs of 2023), and more.
