Zola Jesus (solo piano) w/ Freedom to Spend DJs – 21+
Holocene presents Zola Jesus for an intimate solo piano show in the front lounge. Seating is limited and first come first serve, with standing room available thereafter. Zola Jesus aka Nika is an American born singer, songwriter and producer. Since 2008, she has released two EPs and seven (?) full-length albums majoratively on NY multi-decade tastemaker label Sacred Bones. Nika began training as an opera singer at the age of 10. She dismantled that training to deliver her breakthrough lo-fi record The Spoils in 2009, most of which she recorded as an undergrad in her dorm room at UWMadison. Ontherelease of her follow EP, Stridulum, NME declared her “goth’s new figurehead”. A few years later, TheLATimesdescribed heras, “a focused, serious creator with a solid aesthetic, breathtaking musical vocabulary and a confident vision.” Both publications turned out to be right. Her unmissable voice cuts through the fascia of reality. In the last fifteen years, Nika has created a catalog of music which shall forever remain in the lexicon of alternative music of the 21st century. She will be in the textbooks as a genre defining artist of this generation, who served as a template for all of modern goth and by proxy, much of SoundCloud rap, amongst many other things. She has already collaborated with: David Lynch, Big Dean Hurley, David Byrne, Jean Claude Vannier, Johnny Jewel, Run the Jewels, JG Thirlwell, The Orbital, Flood, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, and Jim Jarmusch. She has appeared on Jools Holland, Conan O’Brien w/El-P, the cover of the Fader, and recently, in Architectural Digest, for her self-designed home, in the woods of northern Wisconsin.

Djrum (pronounced “drum”) is Oxford-based DJ and producer Felix Manuel. With a style that mixes elements of techno, bass music, garage, drum & bass and ambient, DJrum has earned a reputation for creating immersive, emotional music that pushes the boundaries of electronic music. His DJ sets effortlessly intrigue through his frequently risky genre combinations, bold tempo shifts and knife-edge turntablism. It’s no stretch to call the man a virtuoso.

Due to unforeseen circumstances this Lord Sko show has been canceled. Lord Sko, aka Josh Fersko, is a native of Manhattan’s Washington Heights. Already a veteran at just 20 years old, having dropped 2 full-length projects, the prodigious lyrical talent continues to sharpen his sword on the upcoming PIFF, a sure-shot stoner classic. The upcoming album finds the young rapper expanding his classic NYC sound, with help from producers like Statik Selektah, Harry Fraud, A Lau, and his right-hand man Arlo Walker. Young Sko fell in love with rap music when he was still in middle school. Back then, hip-hop was in the fondly- remembered blog era. Sko (who refers to himself as “the rap Jeff Hardy”) felt himself drawn to the stoner side of blog rap, including Wiz Khalifa, Odd Future, Action Bronson, and Curren$y, who would later become a collaborator. After practicing his craft for two years, Sko decided at age 17 to share his skill with the world, teaming up with then-16-year-old Arlo Walker to create the 2022 album Museum. In 2023, Sko followed up that auspicious debut with the even-more- polished United Palace, named after the historic concert hall located in his uptown neighborhood. With PIFF on deck this Spring, a collaboration with Statik Selektah in the bag, and a forthcoming National tour this year, the future looks bright for Lord Sko. Stay tuned for more.
