Alessandro Cortini – w/ Amulets – 21+

PLEASE NOTE: This show was previously scheduled to take place on October 3rd, 2023. All tickets purchased for that date will be honored for the rescheduled date of March 4th, 2024. Italian musician, producer, composer and instrument builder Alessandro Cortini is one of the foremost figures of contemporary electronic music. A longstanding member of Nine Inch Nails, Cortini has been releasing a steady stream of his own heady music on luminary labels including Mute and Important Records for the past decade. Balancing dark ambience with smokey, pulsing rhythms, his compositions are perfectly restrained, textured and mesmeric. In 2021, in collaboration with boutique synth builders Make Noise, Cortini released his own, custom designed, semi-modular synth, Strega (Italian for ‘witch’). That same year, he used Strega to build his latest full length, Scuro Chiaro (Mute), which Pitchfork described as “pitched somewhere between purgatory and the planetarium […] consistently managing to thrill and surprise”. Throughout his shadowy rise to fame, Cortini has collaborated with the likes of Lawrence English, Daniel Avery and Merzbow (to name a few).with local support from Amulets
Hyphen Hyphen – w/ Seance Crasher – Early show! – 21+

HYPHEN HYPHEN : AWARD WINNING TRIO AND GIRL-FRONTED, QUEER POP/ROCK BAND WITH A STRONG MESSAGE Hailing from the coastal town of Nice, Southern France, meet the explosive Hyphen Hyphen and their uncompromising performance π₯ Bridging the French Riviera and California, the Award-winning pop/rock trio HYPHEN HYPHEN released their third album “C’est La Vie” in January 2023, followed by stadium banger “Too Young” which was TF1’s official song for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 in July. This new album is full of prestigious collaborations such as Glen Ballard (6 times Grammy Awards winner) on “Don’t wait for me” ; or mix engineers Mark «Spike» Stent (Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, etc.) and Dan Grech (Lana del Rey, Moby) marking the first time either of them had worked with a French artist. Armed with such an impressive cast, this third album is also the most personal for Hyphen Hyphen. Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/HYPHENHYPHEN/ Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/hyphenhyphen/?hl=fr Youtube :https://www.youtube.com/user/HYPHENHYPHENofficialwith local support from Seance Crasher! The newest single from Seance Crasher (the recording alias of Portland musician, Kevin Rafn) is about the stranger on the other end of the crisis line. “Charlie” is the disembodied voice we cling to when we’re lost, like a flashlight sweeping the dark.t’s also an extremely catchy, danceable homage to 1980s pop, complete with three synthesizers and a heavily reverbed tom solo. These elements might seem incongruous on first blush, but they’re situated in a tradition. Think: Tears for Fears meets Purple Rain. “I appreciate that kind of contrast,” says Rafn. “Serious subject, upbeat backtrack.”The song’s producer, Cam Spies, (Reptaliens, The Shivas, Radiation City), acknowledges the full-on throwback of the sound. This is not a daylight track. It’s midnight. “There’s steam coming from a sewer grate. There’s a sax player in a tunnel.” But as closely as “Charlie” hues to that sound, the high-stakes narrative delivered by Rafn’s dreamy vocals (backed by Lia Gist) produces a kind of interior dissonance that restrains the song from all-out kitsch.”It’s autobiographical,” Rafn says. “It’s about the narrator’s perceived intimacy with that stranger on the other end.” One lyric goes, ‘I hear his voice / though I know he didn’t have a choice,’ and therein lies the rub. For the archetypal “Charlie,” answering the phone might be a calling, but at the end of the day it’s also a job.The cover art by Kevin’s brother, Daniel Rafn bears an oblique resemblance to the Betamax sleeve for Miami Vice, but was in fact directly lifted from the most recent edition of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual, a corresponding ’80s nostalgia tying the music to its theme (while inadvertently commenting on the state of psychiatry). Other contributors include Alexander Thomas on percussion, and photos by Todd Walberg.”Charlie” signals a shift from the psychedelic rock riffs of Seance Crasher’s previous records, toward more focused instrumentation with a solidly 1980s sound. This song will be lodged in your ear long after you’ve stopped listening.
Girli – w/ DJ Sappho – All Ages

North London upstart GIRLI (born Milly Toomey) concocted a chaotic mix of pop, electronic, and punk spirit when she began her solo career in 2014. The rebellious singer/rapper/producer was part of indie rock band Ask Martin while in high school, but when her bandmates went on to college, she decided she didn’t want to go down a traditional path. She chose a stage name inspired by Blondie, with an attention-catching aesthetic that was part cyberpunk and part J-Pop. She went out on her own, performing at all the local open mic nights that she could find, which eventually caught the attention of BBC Radio 1. Her inventive sound combines the futuristic pop of Charli XCX, the cheek of Lily Allen, the attitude of M.I.A., and the genre-blurring tendencies of Grimes. Her first single — “So You Think You Can F*** with Me” b/w “ASBOys” — was released in 2015, followed a year later by “Girls Get Angry Too.” In her songs, she raps about gender, societal pressures, critics, bad boys, and mean girls, employing a confident brand of girl power in the tradition of the Spice Girls.with local support by DJ Sappho!Sappho is a queer musical artist, event producer and co-owner of Koritsi Komma Records based out of Portland, Oregon. Currently, they are a resident DJ at Underground SF in San Francisco, Bottom Forty based on the West Coast, and the following nightclubs and party series in Portland, OR: No Request, NoFOMO, Opal Underground and The Eagle PDX. Harkening back to the most famous poet of antiquity who did not identify as a man, Sappho’s namesake has a strong connection to lesbian love and sensual empowerment. Much like the fabled name that they have built their base upon, they have often been the marginalized voice amongst a sea of male creatives. With over 20 years of involvement in the dance community, they are a mentor to queers and femmes in the craft of deejaying and a resource of underground nightlife culture. They have been changing the status quo with their deep research, guided by precise, almost librametric, methods, branching into new forms and combinations that weave an intricate modern day poetry for a current generation of souls, freeing them, to dance, to love, to feel – the way only a perfect stanza of poetry could elicit.

With this project, I wanted to spend some time wrestling with the different perspectives that often come with exploring expression and self love, and the harsh and beautiful realities that those things entail. From friendship, romantic love, to self compassion I am excited to power into a time where I hear my voice, and even better…I actually love it.” – chromonicciwith local support from Julia Logue!
Holocene’s 20 Year Anniversary!: INNER CITY (DJ SET), KIM ANN FOXMAN, BEN TACTIC & LEEONN – 21+

To celebrate 20 years (and counting) of Holocene, we’ve crafted a series of events to showcase some of our favorite artists from near and far – For this final evening, we end the festivities on the dance floor over our new Danley sound system with: Inner City DJ set, Kim Ann Foxman, plus local support from our friends and frequent collaborators at Spend the Night, Ben Tactic and Leeonn. The story of Inner City is intractably linked with its founder Kevin Saunderson, widely credited as one of the progenitors of techno and a landmark figure in dance music. The beginning of Inner City as a project came in 1987. The music Saunderson was playing and producing in Detroit at the time, alongside fellow The Belleville Three members Juan Atkins and Derrick May, laid the path for what came to be known as Techno, and birthed an entire global culture to follow. Inspired by marathon sets by pioneering DJs Ron Hardy and Larry Levan, Saunderson set out to break from the strictures of Detroit techno’s tracky, dark machine funk by adding vocals to his productions. Work with contemporaries at the time had led to a unique sound based on colourful keyboard chords and snappy drums. What followed was a whirlwind: “Big Fun” and “Good Life” dominated not only clubs but the charts, sweeping top 10s all across Europe, and starting a run of four consecutive No1s on the US Billboard Dance Chart. Their enduring popularity in club and radio rotation continues to this day, standing out as top-tier classics in the pantheon of modern music. Paradise, their debut album, went Platinum in the UK, setting in motion years of high demand on the live touring circuit, and spawning further hit singles such as “Ain’t Nobody Better,” “Do You Love What You Feel”, and 1992’s “Pennies From Heaven”. To the delight of fans, Inner City was revived in the early 2010s. New material was forthcoming, too: 2011’s “Fantasy”, 2014’s “Bad Girl” – featuring remixes from a then 21-year-old and fast rising Dantiez Saunderson, Kevin’s son and musical protege – and, most recently, “Good Luck” in 2017, with Danitez integrated as a full member of the group.Kim Ann Foxman, is a New York based artist, DJ and producer that continues to flourish by staying true to what she believes in. Between her dynamic DJ sets, productions and her latest band project, Pleasure Planet, ‘KAF’ has become a prominent and influential perspective in dance music. Moving to New York in the early 2000s, she became a staple DJ during a halcyon time in the city’s club scene, before teaming up with Hercules & Love Affair as vocalist for their first two highly acclaimed albums, that saw them become beacons and stars for the club world’s ever-shifting identity, going on to undertake multiple world tours, before eventually breaking away to follow her own adventures once more. Returning to her clubbing roots, KAF stepped from band to international touring DJ with aplomb. Utilizing all her music experience she is known for creating long dance floor journeys with a special psychedelic twist, playing to clubs and festivals around the globe, from her hometown residency at Brooklyn’s Good Room to her regular appearances at Berlin’s Panorama Bar, she’s become an icon to many, encompassing art, music and fashion.
